The bite was definitely up and down this week, but the theme was gradual improvement. With the warmer weather that we are experiencing now, the bite will continue to improve and be very good by the end of the week!
EAST END WALLEYES: The best bite we have experienced this week has been in 16-25 feet along sand to mud transitions. Pulling a Lindy Rig with a minnow at 0.5-0.7 miles per hour has been our best method of catching them.
There have still been fish along the edges of holes as well in 20-35 feet. The fish in these locations may be more numerous than in the sand to mud transitions, but they are also more likely to be small. At very least, you may need to weed through more small fish to get your keepers.
WEST END WALLEYES: We have seen the same pattern set up on the west side, with the best bite being in 16-34 feet along sand to mud transitions. A Lindy rig with a minnow has been the best method to catching these fish as well.
There are still some fish in the 20-35 foot holes as well, but like the east side, they are usually picked through and smaller…….. Oftentimes the fish will be on a sand to mud transition near a similar hole that was fished hard previously, as fishing pressure can push fish out of a particular area.
