The rock bite is now in full swing, with lots of nice catches to be had! Read on for Patriot Guide’s Lake Vermilion, Minnesota June fishing report.
EAST END WALLEYES: The best bite for walleyes is on a slip-bobber and a leech in anywhere from 5 to 15 feet of water. Staying mobile is a big part of putting good numbers of fish in the boat. Sometimes this is a small move as far as fish sliding around the structure, and sometimes it’s a bigger move: going to another spot altogether. Except for a select few bites, the name of the game has been, and will continue to be, catching a couple, and moving on.
There are still some fish to be had Lindy Rigging the edges of holes in 20-30 feet of water, and along sand to mud transitions in 16-24 feet. This can be an easier bite to fish for someone who doesn’t have forward facing sonar to run around with.
WEST END WALLEYES: Much like the east side, the best bite is 5-15 feet of water on the rocks. Staying mobile is also a key factor, as you oftentimes will only catch a fish or two on a spot before it is time to keep moving.
There are some fish being caught on sand flats in 10-20 feet of water. Target these fish with Lindy rigs and a leech or a crawler at 0.5-0.7 mph. Following the wind can make a big difference in how many fish you catch when you are rigging.
