The July walleye fishing is into a lull on Lake Vermilion, but we have still been putting decent numbers of fish in the boat!
EAST END WALLEYES: The best walleye bite has been on 12 to 20 foot rock humps. Our best presentation this week has been the good old fashioned slip-bobber and a leech. While it isn’t necessarily an easy bite, running around, hitting a lot of spots, and catching a fish or two per spot has resulted in putting a decent number of fish in the boat.
There are some fish to be had on the main lake sand as well. Drag a Lindy Rig and a crawler at 0.5 to 0.7mph in 15 to 25 feet of water. This bite is sporadic as the fish are moving in and out of spots. It should become more consistent as the mayflies leave the system and as we progress later into July.
WEST END WALLEYES: The best bite on the west side has been deeper rocks in 15 to 30 feet of water. Running around with a slip-bobber and a leech and hitting a bunch of spots is the best way to catch them. Be for-warned: you may need to hit a lot of spots to catch a few fish.
There are some fish on the main lake sand as well. Dragging Lindy Rigs in 15 to 25 feet of water is your best bet. This pattern should continue to improve as we approach the end of July.
The July walleye fishing may be slowing down, but we’re still consistently putting fish in the boat.
