07/21/26 Lake Vermilion Fishing Report:

Fishing continues to improve on Vermilion and we are reporting a very strong bite this week!

EAST END WALLEYES: The best bite continues to be on rock piles in 8-17 feet of water. A 1/16th oz jig with a leech or a crawler has been our bait of choice, but slip-bobbers have been working as well. Moving often has paid dividends as not every school of fish will bite, but a higher percentage of schools are biting more willingly than they were two weeks ago.

There have been some intermittent bites on the mid-lake sand and gravel in 15 to 25 feet of water. Some days the Lindy Rig bite is lights out; other days it is terrible. It has been an interesting July where we are fishing a lot more June patterns than traditional July ones.

WEST END WALLEYES: The best walleye fishing on the west side has been on the deeper rocks in 12 to 25 feet of water. Much like the east end, we have had the best luck with 1/16oz jigs tipped with a crawler or a leech. Staying mobile is really important for this bite as you are usually fishing smaller schools and only catching 1 to 2 fish out of a school of walleyes.

Some fish are to be had on the west side Lindy Rigging in the sand. Rigging at 0.5-0.7 with a leech or crawler and fishing windblown structures is our preferred method to putting fish in the boat.

Fishing on Lake Vermilion is as good as we’ve seen it in weeks, with active schools of walleyes showing up across both ends of the lake and more fish feeding consistently each day. If you’ve been thinking about making a trip, now is a great time to get on the water. August dates are still available with Patriot Guide Service. Call Justin at 218-820-0335 or book your Lake Vermilion guided fishing trip online before the remaining openings fill up!
