The Leadcore bite is starting! One of the most consistent bites of the year is kicking off. While not at full force yet, the leadcore bite can result in some of the best catches of the entire season.
EAST END WALLEYES: We are transitioning from the mid-summer sand and gravel bars to the start of the leadcore bite. There are some fish still on the bars in 17-25 feet, but there are also some fish spilling out into the mud in 20-30 feet of water. Be willing to adapt. It is quite possible that you can get on a good Lindy Rig bite in the morning and a good leadcore bite in the afternoon.
WEST END WALLEYES: 17-25 foot sand and gravel bars are still your best bet for a good bite on the west end of the lake. The bite is definitely improving as we progress into the latter part of the season, but it is not as consistent as the east end. Do not be afraid to check the mud adjacent to these areas. Being the first person to target fish in the mud can result in a truly spectacular bite.
SMALLMOUTH BASS: Bass fishing continues to be excellent! Pitch rocky shorelines or mid-lake rock piles in 6-15 feet and you will catch a lot of bass. The best baits continue to be ned rigs, swimbaits, creature baits, jerkbaits, or a slip-bobber with live bait.
