How we catch fish keeps changing, but what remains consistent is a good bite!
EAST END WALLEYES: The best bite the last two days is back to Leadcore trolling in 15-30 feet of water. Number 5 Flicker Shads and Shad Raps have been our baits of choice with some Number 7’s mixed in. Our favorite speed to troll has been 2.5 miles per hour.
There are some fish to be had around the rocks as well. In some locations they can be caught on the tops in 10-15 feet of water with a jig and a crawler or a jig and a leech. In other areas they are on the bottoms in 14-20 feet and are best caught with Lindy Rigs.
WEST END WALLEYES: Leadcore has picked up on the west end as well. Trolling the 18 to 25’ mud basins has been the best bet. Using bigger baits like Number 7’s and even number 9’s can help put more fish in the boat.
There are fish to be had in the 15 to 25 foot rocks as well. Target these fish with a jig and a crawler or a jig and a leech.
Good fall fishing is here on Lake Vermilion and the patterns will stabilize and be more predictable as September approaches! Justin has a few more openings in August, as well as several in September! The remaining August dates are: 8/22 PM, 8/24 PM, 8/26 AM, and 8/31 AM/PM.
